Biography of Shammi Kapoor
Early life
His parents, cinema and theatre performer Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsharni Kapoor gave him the name Shamsher Raj Kapoor when he was born in Bombay now Mumbai.
Prithviraj had three sons, the second of them was Shammi the other two being Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor, both successful Hindi Film actors. He was Juggal Kishore Mehra’s first cousin, and his granddaughter is actress-singer Salma Agha. As a result, Shammi Kapoor is Salma Agha’s uncle.

Though he was born in Mumbai, he spent the majority of his youth in Calcutta now Kolkata, where his father worked as an actor for New Theatres Studios. He completed his Montessori education and Kindergarten in Kolkata.

Aditya Raj Kapoor was born on July 1, 1956, at Shirodkar’s Hospital in Mumbai, a year after they married. Kanchan, their daughter, was born five years later, in 1961. In 1965, Geeta Bali died of smallpox. On January 27, 1969, Shammi Kapoor married Neila Devi, a member of the old royal family of Bhavnagar in Gujarat.
Mumtaz revealed in an interview in 2011 that Shammi Kapoor had proposed marriage to her after they became close while filming Brahmachari.
This occurred after his first wife, Geeta Bali, died. Mumtaz claims she gently declined Shammi Kapoor’s request to give up her job. Bina Ramani, a well-known socialite, too claimed to have had a rocky relationship with Shammi Kapoor.

He died of chronic kidney failure on August 14, 2011, at 5:15 a.m. IST, at the age of 79. The funeral was placed at the Banganga cremation yard in Malabar Hill, Mumbai, on Monday, August 15th. At the cremation, his son, Aditya, performed the last rites.
His younger brother Shashi Kapoor, sister-in-law Krishna Kapoor, grand-nephew Ranbir Kapoor, nephews Rishi, Randhir, and Rajiv, Randhir’s wife Babita, and grand nieces Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were also present to pay their respects.
Among those who attended the burial were Bollywood stars Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha, Subhash Ghai, Amitabh Bachchan, Ramesh Sippy, Danny Denzongpa, Prem Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Shah Rukh Khan, Kabir Bedi, and Priyanka Chopra.
A bronze monument of Kapoor was inaugurated at Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai as part of the Walk of Stars.
