LeClaire and Tommy Bryan, a peanut farmer, welcomed Luke Bryan into the world in Leesburg, Georgia. Before Luke, then 19 years old, relocated to Nashville with his older brother Chris “unexpectedly passed away in a vehicle accident. As I write this, I’m beginning to hyperventilate. You never really get past it.”
We were aware that Luke would visit Nashville at some point, according to his mother LeClaire, who had already made a statement. But you can’t abandon your family, and the idea of him being away made me sick to my stomach.
As an alternative, Luke enrolled in Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, where he joined the fraternity Sigma Chi and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1999.
Bryan’s father advised him to load up his truck and move to Nashville in order to pursue a career in music, and two years later Bryan made it there. He first found fame as a lyricist before signing on to perform; his first big hit was “All My Friends Say.”
