Early life and background

Sanjeev Kumar was born Harihar Jethalal Jariwala, also known as Haribhai, on July 9, 1938, in Surat, Gujarat, to a Gujarati family, and moved to Mumbai as a child. After a stunt at a film school, he moved to Bollywood and became a successful actor.
