Early Life
Tanuja was born to filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth and actress Shobhna Samarth in a Marathi family. She has three sisters, one brother, and one sister, actress Nutan. Rattan Bai, her grandmother, and Nalini Jaywant, her aunt, were also actresses.
Tanuja’s parents divorced peacefully when she was a child, and Shobhana began dating actor Motilal. Tanuja and her older sister, Nutan, both had their debut films produced by Shobhana. Her two other sisters, Chatura, an artist, and Reshma, as well as her brother, Jaideep, are also actresses.
