Aruna Irani was born to an Iranian father and a Hindu mother in Mumbai, India. Her mother Saguna Irani was an actress, while her father Faredun Irani headed a theatre troupe.
She is the eldest of eight siblings and dropped out of school after sixth grade since her family couldn’t afford to educate all of them.
Because she couldn’t afford formal training from a master, she claims to have learned to dance while acting in the movies.
