Early life
Sadhana Shivdasani was born on September 2, 1941, in Karachi, British India, to a Sindhi Hindu family. She was the only child in her family.
Sadhana was named after Sadhana Bose, her father’s favourite actress and dancer. Her father was actor Hari Shivdasani’s older brother and Babita’s father.
During the post-Partition unrest in Karachi, the family relocated to Mumbai. Her mother taught her until she was eight years old at home, after which she attended Auxilium Convent, Wadala, and Jai Hind College.
Sadhana was allowed to watch up to two films despite the fact that they were going through a difficult time. Sadhana was encouraged to pursue a career as a film actor by actress Nutan, according to reports.

Sadhana married Ram Krishna Nayyar, the director of Love in Simla, on March 7, 1966. On the set of the movie, their love bloomed. Her parents however were against it because she was so young at the time.
They were married for over three decades until he died of asthma in 1995. The couple didn’t have any children. She revealed in 2013 that she does not stay in touch with her first cousin Babita, but she does with actors Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Nanda, and Helen Jairag Richardson.
Hyperthyroidism caused her to have eye difficulties. She declined to be photographed when she retired from performing. She rented an apartment building owned by singer Asha Bhosle in Santacruz, Mumbai.
