Suriya was born on July 23, 1975, as Saravanan, to actor Sivakumar and his wife Lakshmi in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu.
He went to Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School and St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College in Chennai with a bachelor’s degree in commerce. Suriya has a younger brother, Karthi, and a younger sister, Brindha.
