Early life and family
Vikram was born on April 17, 1966, as Kennedy John Victor to a Christian father and a Hindu mother. John Victor (alias Vinod Raj) was a Paramakudi native who ran away from home to pursue a career in filmmaking.
His father, on the other hand, did not fare well and was only able to act in supporting roles in Tamil films and television serials, which inspired Vikram to enrol in theatre classes and become professionally trained in classical and cinema dance forms in order to ensure his success as a leading actor.
Vikram’s mother, Rajeshwari, was a sub-collector, and her brother, Thiagarajan, is a well-known Tamil cinema director-actor, with his son, actor Prashanth, being Vikram’s first cousin.
