Early life and background
Sanju was born on November 11, 1994, in Pulluvila, a seaside village near Vizhinjam in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district, to a Latin Catholic Malayali family.
His father, Samson Viswanath, is a retired Delhi Police constable and former football player and coach who has represented Delhi in the Santhosh Trophy, while his mother, Ligy Viswanath, is a homemaker.
Saly Samson, his older brother, played junior cricket for Kerala and now works in the Attorney General’s office.

He was the youngest Kerala cricketer to be selected for the Ranji Trophy at the age of 14. In the same year, he was picked to the Kerala squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
On 3 November 2011, he made his first-class debut for the side in the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha, and on 16 October 2011, he made his Twenty20 debut for the same side in the 2011-12 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Hyderabad.
