Roy’s first name was Roopa Rai, but the producer of her first film, Zaroorat, changed it to “Reena Roy.” Roy began performing in films when she was in her teens. She refuted rumours that her decision to pursue a career in movies was motivated by a desire to help her mother and siblings financially.
Roy has a brother, Raja, and two sisters, Barkha and Anju. Roy left the film profession in 1983 to marry Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan after a highly publicised love affair with Shatrughan Sinha.

Roy found Khan’s flashy lifestyle impossible to acclimate to, and the couple split in the 1990s. Roy first lost custody of her daughter Sanam, but she recovered custody once her ex-husband remarried.

Ishara, undeterred by the issues, gave Roy the lead role in his next directorial project, Zaroorat. Because of the project’s risky subject and potentially controversial situations, Roy was originally hesitant to accept it but eventually consented.

Zaroorat was released in theatres in 1972, but it bombed at the box office, but Roy’s sensual performance was praised. Roy’s later parts, such as Jaise Ko Taisa (1973), which became famous for the song “Ab Ke Sawan Mein Jee Dare,” in which Roy and Jeetendra dance together in the rain, were excessively concentrated on her sex appeal.
The film was a box-office success, and it inspired filmmakers to approach Roy with more substantial projects, such as Zakhmee (1975), in which she played a supporting role.
Primary source of Reena Roy Net worth (Acting)
Kalicharan (1976), an action thriller directed by Subhash Ghai, increased her popularity among directors and spectators.
Since Subhash Ghai, a failed actor, was making his directorial debut and Shatrugan Sinha, known for his evil portrayals, was making his maiden appearance as the lead hero, there were initially low expectations for Kalicharan.
However, the film defied all expectations and became an unexpected smash, with Reena gaining popularity as Shatrugan’s love interest. They also became a couple off-screen. In the same year, she co-starred with Jeetendra in another successful family drama, Udhar Ka Sindur.
Stardom and establishment
In J. Om Prakash’s drama Apnapan, Roy received critical acclaim for her performance as Kamini, a “gold-digger” lady who abandons her husband (Jeetendra) for a more senior but wealthier man (Ifthekar).
Roy worked with Subhash Ghai for the second time on the action picture Vishwanath, alongside Sinha, in 1978, and with Rajkumar Kohli for the horror-thriller Jaani Dushman the following year (1979). Both films were box office successes.
In the same year, she co-starred with her then-rumoured boyfriend Shatrughan Sinha in Raj Kumar Kohli’s Muqabla (1979). At the box office, the picture was a huge hit. Rajkumar Kohli collaborated with Reena on the multi-starrer hits Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman, Muqabla (1979), and Raaj Tilak.
Sabbatical and sporadic work
Roy returned to Bollywood in 1992, playing a mature supporting role as a sister-in-law (‘bhabhi’) in Aadmi Khilona Hai (1993), but she was unable to recreate her early success. J. P. Dutta’s Refugee was her most recent film appearance (2000).
She has recently moved on to performing in television serials, such as her sister Barkha’s “Eena Meena Deeka.” In 2004, the sisters launched an acting school after the series finished. Roy has also run for the Indian National Congress in the past.
