Shahid Kapoor Biography
Early life
Shahid Kapoor was born on February 25, 1981, in New Delhi, India, to actor Pankaj Kapur and actress-dancer Neelima Azeem. When he was three years old, his parents divorced; his father moved to Mumbai and married actress Supriya Pathak, while Kapoor stayed in Delhi with his mother and maternal grandparents.
His father, a struggling actor in Mumbai at the time, would only pay Kapoor a visit on his birthday once a year. Kapoor’s mother, a dancer, came to Mumbai to pursue a career as an actor when he was ten years old.

Azeem then married actor Rajesh Khattar in Mumbai. Kapoor lived with his mother and Khattar until 2001 when they divorced. On his passport, Kapoor continues to use the surname Khattar. From his mother’s marriage to Khattar, he has a maternal half-brother named Ishaan.
Sanah and Ruhaan, his paternal half-siblings, are the result of his father’s marriage to Pathak. Kapoor attended Delhi’s Gyan Bharati School and Mumbai’s Rajhans Vidyalaya. He then spent three years at Mumbai’s Mithibai College.

Stepping stone into Shahid Kapoor Net Worth (Career)
Early work
Producer Ramesh Taurani was eager to cast Kapoor in a film after seeing him in the Aryans’ song video “Aankhon Mein.” Taurani, on the other hand, thought Kapoor, who was 20 years old at the time, was too young and underweight to be an actor and advised him to wait a few years.
In the meantime, Kapoor passed up a lead role in N. Chandra’s sex comedy Style in order to collaborate with Taurani. Taurani found Kapoor a suitable project in the teenage romance Ishq Vishk (2003), directed by Ken Ghosh for his firm. Kapoor was eventually hired after intense training for a bigger physical build.

Following Ishq Vishk, Kapoor rejoined with Ghosh in a project that he felt was vastly different from Ishq Vishk. In the thriller Fida (2004), he played a love-struck student who is duped into robbing a bank by a woman Kareena Kapoor and her lover Fardeen Khan.
Later that year, Kapoor starred with three ladies in the romantic comedy Dil Maange More, which he co-wrote with Soha Ali Khan, Tulip Joshi, and Ayesha Takia. Rediff.com’s Patcy N appreciated his dance abilities but cautioned him against imitating Shah Rukh Khan’s acting style. Both of his albums from 2004 were commercial flops.
Awards success and controversies
Kapoor next worked with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj in Haider (2014), a 1995 rendition of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet in which he starred alongside Tabu and Shraddha Kapoor as the title character.
The film was considered the “toughest” of Kapoor’s career, and he waived his fees to appear in it. He shaved his head and learned to speak in a Kashmiri accent for the part.

Although Haider received positive reviews, the movie was met with opposition from Indian nationalists due to its representation of the Kashmir dispute. For the part, Kapoor received a Screen Award, a Producers Guild Film Award, and a Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Kapoor starred with Alia Bhatt in Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar after completing his duty as a talent judge on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded (2015). It’s about insomniacs who fall in love during a destination wedding, and it’s a critical and commercial flop.
Following that, Kapoor portrayed a drug-abusing rock star in Abhishek Chaubey’s crime drama Udta Punjab (2016), which exposes the epidemic of substance misuse in the Indian state of Punjab.
As a teetotaler, Kapoor found playing an addict difficult. He built his character on a number of pop artists and wanted to emphasise his character’s vulnerability despite his rude actions.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) required heavy censorship before the theatrical release of Udta Punjab, claiming that the film’s image of Punjab was unfavourable.
The requests triggered a debate in India over freedom of expression. The Bombay High Court authorised it for exhibition with a single scene deleted, in which Kapoor’s character is shown peeing on people after the producers filed a petition against the board.
At the same evening, Kapoor won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor (shared with Manoj Bajpayee for Aligarh) and was nominated for Best Actor.
Personal life and off-screen work
In India, ardent tabloid reporting on Kapoor’s personal life is rampant. He began dating Kareena Kapoor during the making of Fida in 2004, and the two publicly announced their relationship.
When Mid Day published a set of images of them kissing in public, it became a well-publicized scandal. Despite the couple’s assertions that the photos were doctored, the publication denied any wrongdoing.
During the production of Jab We Met in 2007, the couple split up. Kapoor has chosen to keep his personal life out of the spotlight after their breakup. Tabloids, on the other hand, speculated on his relationship with Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra, among others.
Kapoor also performs on stage and presents award shows in addition to performing in films. In 2006, he was a member of the RockStars globe tour, which featured Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Salman Khan, and three other superstars.
Kapoor co-hosted three Screen Awards presentations with Shah Rukh Khan between 2010 and 2012, and three International Indian Film Academy Awards with either Khan or Farhan Akhtar between 2012 and 2014.
Public image
Kapoor’s career began to suffer after the success of Jab We Met (2007) and Kaminey (2009); he described the period as a succession of “bad choices” and stated that taking on a hard part in Haider (2014) helped him reinvent himself.
According to Sonal Gera of The Indian Express, the film cemented his place in Bollywood. Despite having a skewed success ratio at the box office, author Koral Dasgupta argues in her book Power of a Common Man that Kapoor “does not conform to any fixed laws of the game,” and that he remains popular among viewers.
