Menon was born in Kerala and raised in Maharashtra’s Ambarnath and Pune.
He attended Khadki, Pune’s St. Joseph High School. In 1981, he completed his tenth grade. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Mumbai University and his MBA from the University of Pune’s Department of Management Sciences (PUMBA), graduating in 1988 with a major in marketing.
Menon’s first job was in the advertising sector, where he worked on ads for Kinetic Honda and Marlboro cigarettes in India.
