Biography of Serena Williams
Williams was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on September 26, 1981, to Oracene Price and Richard Williams.
Price has five daughters: half-sisters Yetunde, Lyndrea, and Isha Price, as well as a full older sister Venus. She has at least seven paternal half-brothers and sisters.
The family moved to Compton, California, when the children were little, and she began playing tennis at the age of four.
Her father home-schooled her and her sister, Venus. Richard Williams, a Compton man who shared her father’s name and later formed The Venus and Serena Williams Tennis/Tutorial Academy, has been one of her other mentors.
Stepping stone into Serena Williams Net Worth (Career)
Williams’ parents wanted her to wait until she was 16 years old before competing in professional competitions.
Williams hoped to make her professional debut as a wild-card entry in the Bank of the West Classic in Oakland, California, in 1995, shortly after turning 14, but the WTA banned her owing to age-eligibility rules.
She then initiated an antitrust case against the women’s tour, which she later abandoned at the behest of her parents.
In October 1995, she competed in her first professional tournament, the Bell Challenge in Quebec, where she exploited a wild-card entry to get around age restrictions.
She only won two games in the first qualifying round, losing to then-18-year-old American Annie Miller.
