Early life
On September 29, 1932, Mehmood Ali was born. He was one of eight children born to Latifunnisa and Mumtaz Ali, a popular film and stage actor/dancer in Bombay during the 1940s and 1950s.
Mehmood had six younger siblings and one older sister. Minoo Mumtaz, his sister, was also a prominent Bollywood dancer and character actor. Anwar Ali, his younger brother, is an actor and producer who has worked on films such as Khud-Daar and Kaash.

Early career
He began his career as a kid actor in Bombay films such as Kismet. Later, he worked in a number of odd jobs, including selling chicken goods and driving for director P. L. Santoshi. Mehmood died in his sleep on July 23, 2004, in the American state of Pennsylvania, where he had sought treatment for coronary heart disease following years of ill health. At Mehboob Studio in Bandra, Mumbai, his supporters were allowed to pay tribute to him.
