Gordon was born in Vallejo, California to Carol Ann Bickford and William Grinnell Gordon of Vacaville, California. He is of Scotch-Irish origin. When Gordon was six months old, his biological mother and father split.
In the 1970s, his stepfather, John Bickford, married his mother. Kim, his four-year-old sister, is his only sibling. James Bickford, his younger relative, is presently competing in the K&N Pro Series West.
