Darshan was born on February 16, 1977, in Ponnampet, Kodagu district, Karnataka, India, to actors Thoogudeepa Srinivas and Meena.
Hemanth Kumar was his given name at birth. Srinivas starred in the Kannada film Thoogudeepa in 1966, and as a result of his success, the moniker “Thoogudeepa” remained his name.
