Biography of Colin Farrell
Colin James Farrell was born on May 31, 1976, in the Dublin suburb of Castleknock, to Rita and Eamon Farrell. His father was a health food store owner and a football player for Shamrock Rovers FC. Tommy Farrell, his uncle, was also a Shamrock Rovers player.
Eamon Jr. is his older brother, and Claudine and Catherine are his sisters. He attended St. Brigid’s National School, then Castleknock College, an exclusive all-boys private school, and Gormanston College in County Meath.
Around this time, he tried out for the boy band Boyzone but was rejected. When Henry Thomas’ performance in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) brought him to tears, he was motivated to try acting.
He enrolled in the Gaiety School of Acting with his brother’s encouragement but dropped out when he was cast as Danny Byrne in the BBC drama Ballykissange.
Farrell became a suspect in an attempted murder case while travelling in Sydney when he was 18 years old. His only alibi was a journal kept by a friend, which explained that the two had been taking MDMA on the other side of town that night, and he had even described blacking out during the night in question.
