McCullum scored 170 runs for the Otago Volts in the State Shield Final against the Auckland Aces on March 3, 2008, before facing England for the test series.

He helped the Volts beat the Aces at Eden Park’s outer oval, and helped them chase down a daunting total of 7 for 310, breaking multiple State Shield batting records.

He hit the fastest LA century in 52 balls, with 14 fours and five sixes. McCullum set a new record for the greatest score by any player in a domestic one-day match (Shell or State competitions) with 170 runs, surpassing Blair Hartland’s previous mark.
