Sarandon was born in the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights. She is the eldest of nine children born to advertising entrepreneur, television producer, and former nightclub singer Lenora Marie and Phillip Leslie Tomalin.
Phillip Leslie Jr., Terry (a successful outdoorsman, journalist, and community leader), Timothy, and O’Brian are her four brothers, while Meredith (or “Merry”), Bonnie Priscilla, Amanda, and Melissa are her four sisters.
