Style of play
Smith is a right-handed hitter with an unconventional technique that has gotten him a lot of attention.
He moves around a lot in the crease, especially during bowlers’ run-ups, and against right-handed bowlers, he finishes up with his toes outside off stump.
He also controls the bat with his bottom hand (the hand closest to the blade of the bat) and can execute unusual cricket shots like the reverse sweep.
Right-handed Smith took guard left-handed and hit a six in a club match in January 2010. Smith was once labelled as a limited-overs batsman who may struggle in the longer version of the game because of his unconventional style, particularly early in his career when he was vulnerable outside off stump.
