Margaret Field and Richard Dryden Field raised Sally Field in Pasadena, California. During World War II, her father served in the army. Richard D. Field, a physicist, and scholar is her brother. Her mother married actor and stuntman Jock Mahoney after her parents divorced in 1950.
Mahoney allegedly sexually molested Field as a child, according to Field’s 2018 memoir. Field is a descendant of William Bradford, the tenth great-grandfather of Mayflower traveler and colonial ruler William Bradford, through her maternal grandmother.
