Mugur Sundar and Mahadevamma Sundar welcomed Prabhu Deva into the world on April 3, 1973, in Mysore, in the modern-day state of Karnataka.

He started dancing after being inspired by his father Mugur Sundar, a choreographer for South Indian movies.
