Neelam Kothari is a Hong Kong native. She is of Gujarati and Iranian descent. She learned to play the keyboard and danced Jazz Ballet as a child. Her family owns a traditional jewellery business that specialises in high-end pieces.

She attended Island School and was a member of the Rutherford House. Her family relocated to Bangkok after she completed her upbringing in Hong Kong.
