Kalki Koechlin was born on January 10, 1982, in Pondicherry, India, to Jol Koechlin and Françoise Armandie, who immigrated to India from Angers, France. She is a descendent of Maurice Koechlin, a French structural engineer who was instrumental in the creation of the Eiffel Tower’s design and construction.
Koechlin’s parents are Sri Aurobindo devotees, and she spent a large part of her youth in Auroville. Koechlin’s father developed a business designing hang-gliders and ultralight aircraft in Kallatty, a village near Ooty in Tamil Nadu, where the family ultimately resided.
