Glenn Close was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, on March 19, 1947, to socialite Elizabeth Mary Hester “Bettine” (Moore) and doctor William Taliaferro Close, who ran a clinic in the Belgian Congo and acted as the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko’s personal physician.
