Fearless Nadia Biography
Early life
Mary Ann Evans, as Fearless Nadia, was born on January 8, 1908, in Perth, Western Australia. She was the daughter of Herbertt Evans, a Scotsman who served in the British Army as a volunteer, and Margret.
Before moving to India, they resided in Australia. When Herbertt’s unit was sent to Bombay, Mary was just a year old. With her father, Mary arrived in Bombay at the age of five in 1913.

Her father’s sudden killing by Germans during World War I forced the family’s relocation to Peshawar in 1915 (now in Pakistan). During a stay in the North-West Frontier Province, she learned horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and shooting (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).
She returned to Bombay (Mumbai) in 1928 with her mother and a son, Robert Jones, about whom little is known, and went on to study ballet under Madam Astrova.

Stepping stone into Fearless Nadia Net Worth (Career)
She had previously worked as a salesgirl in the Army & Navy Store in Bombay (Mumbai) and had expressed an interest in learning “short-hand and typing to get a better career.” Astrova’s troupe entertained British soldiers on military sites, Indian royalty, and other audiences in small towns and villages.
She learned cartwheels and splits, which came in handy later in her acting career. An Armenian fortune teller informed her that she would have a good career if she chose a name that began with the letter “N.” Nadia was chosen because it was “exotic-sounding.”

Career of Tapasree
In 1930, she began working with Zarko Circus after touring India as a stage artist. Jamshed “J.B.H.” Wadia, the founder of Wadia Movietone, the behemoth of stunts and action in 1930s Bombay, introduced her to Hindi films.
J.B.H. was first perplexed by Mary’s insistence on auditioning for the movies, but he took a chance and cast her as a slave girl in Desh Deepak (in a hand-painted colour sequence that emphasised her blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes), and then as Princess Parizaad in Noor-e-Yaman.
Nadia was a tremendous hit with the audience, and J.B.H., now joined by his younger brother Homi, decided to turn her into a star based on her abilities to perform circus and other acrobatics. She starred in a James Bond spoof called Khiladi in 1967-68 when she was in her late 50s (The Player).
Personal life
In 1961, Nadia married Homi Wadia and became Nadia Wadia.
Death
Nadia died of age-related ailments on January 9, 1996, a day after her 88th birthday.
Legacy
Riyad Vinci Wadia, Nadia’s great-grandnephew, produced Fearless: The Hunterwali Story, a documentary about her life and films, in 1993.
Dorothee Wenner, a German freelance writer and film curator, authored Fearless Nadia – The actual storey of Bollywood’s original stunt queen after seeing the documentary at the 1993 Berlin International Film Festival.
It was later translated into English in 2005. Kangana Ranaut’s part in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Hindi film Rangoon was inspired by Nadia.
On the 8th of January 2018, Google released a doodle honouring Fearless Nadia’s 110th birthday. Devaki Neogi, an Indian comic illustrator, was commissioned to create the doodle.
