Catherine Elise Blanchett was born in Ivanhoe, a Melbourne suburb, on May 14, 1969. June Gamble, an Australian property entrepreneur and teacher, and her Texas-born American father, Robert DeWitt Blanchett Jr., were both United States Navy Chief Petty Officers who eventually worked as advertising executives.
