Kumar is a domestic cricketer representing Uttar Pradesh; he has also represented Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy and made his first-class debut against Bengal at the age of 17.

Kumar made his international debut against Pakistan in T20I and ODI matches towards the end of 2012.
