Griezmann was born in Mâcon, Saône-et-Loire, in the commune of Mâcon. His father, Alain, is a municipal councilor from Münster, Germany, and his surname was initially spelled “Griesmann” until being changed to “Griezmann” for social reasons.
His mother Isabelle, a former hospital employee who oversaw the cleaning crew, is Portuguese, and her father Amaro Lopes played football for Paços de Ferreira.
