Early life and education
Saeed Jaffrey was born on January 8, 1929, in Malerkotla, Punjab, to a Punjabi Muslim family. Khan Bahadur Fazle Imam, his maternal grandfather, was the Dewan or Prime Minister of the princely state of Malerkotla at the time.

Dr Hamid Hussain Jaffrey, his father, was a physician and a civil servant with the United Provinces of British India’s Health Services department.
Jaffrey and his family lived in cities such as Muzaffarnagar, Lucknow, Mirzapur, Kanpur, Aligarh, Mussoorie, Gorakhpur, and Jhansi as they moved from one medical posting to the next within the United Provinces.

In the early hours of November 14, 2015, the veteran actor died in a London hospital. He was 86 years old when he died. He had passed out from a brain bleed at his London home and never recovered consciousness. A week later, he was laid to rest.
