Johnny Walker was born in Hubballi, British India, in 1926 to a mill worker. He was born to a Muslim family and given the name Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi.
His father’s mill closed, and the family, which included Kazi as the third of 10 children, relocated to Bombay, Maharashtra. Kazi tried his hand at a variety of vocations before landing a job with Bombay Electric Supply and Transport as a bus conductor.
