Alexander was born Suzana Drobnjakovi in Los Angeles, California, and is of Serbian origin. In sixth grade, she began acting in school productions. She used to ice skate but had to stop owing to a knee injury.
She continued to act throughout high school and college before moving to New York City to perform in summer stock and Shakespeare festivals. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television when she graduated.
