Couture is the son of Sharan Amelia and Edward Lewis “Ed” Couture and was born in Everett, Washington. He began wrestling at Alderwood Middle School in Lynnwood, Washington, and later transferred to Lynnwood High School, where he won a State Championship his senior year.
From 1982 to 1988, he served in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, where he “wrestled and did a little boxing.”
