Damon was born on October 8, 1970, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to stockbroker Kent Telfer Damon and Nancy Carlsson-Paige, an early childhood education professor at Lesley University. His father is of English and Scottish lineage, while his mother is of Finnish and Swedish ancestry.
Damon and his family spent two years in Newton. When he was two years old, his parents split, and he and his brother moved to Cambridge with their mother, where they lived in a six-family common house. Kyle, his younger brother, is a sculptor and artist.
