Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu was born on August 9, 1975, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, to a Telugu family.

After Ramesh Babu, Padmavathi, and Manjula, and before Priyadarshini, he is the fourth of Krishna and Indira’s five children. Their ancestors are from Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district.
