Jaya Bachchan is a Film and Television Institute of India graduate. At the age of 15, she appeared in Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Mahanagar (1963), alongside Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee. She then starred in two more Bengali films: Suman, a 13-minute short, and Dhanyee Meye, a comedy in which she played Uttam Kumar’s sister-in-law.
