Farhan Akhtar was born in Bombay, India, to screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani (present-day Mumbai). Zoya Akhtar, his sister, is a writer and director. During his childhood, his parents split, and his father married Shabana Azmi in 1984.
