Bipasha Basu was born in Delhi, India, on January 7, 1979, to a Bengali family. Hirak, her father, is a civil engineer, and Mamta, her mother, is a stay-at-home mom. Bidisha is her older sister, and Vijayeta is her younger sister. Her name, according to Basu, means “dark deep desire” and is also the name of a river.
