Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt was born in Berkeley, California, on August 15, 1972. When he was three years old, his family relocated to Massachusetts, settling in Falmouth, where his brother Casey was born, before settling in Cambridge.
Christopher Anne “Chris” Boldt, his mother, was a Harvard-trained elementary school teacher. Timothy Byers Affleck, his father, was a struggling dramatist who was “largely unemployed.” At Harvard, he worked as a carpenter, auto mechanic, bookie, electrician, bartender, and janitor on a part-time basis. He worked with the Theater Company of Boston as an actor and stage manager in the mid-1960s.
