Early life
Pearce was born in the English town of Ely, in the county of Cambridgeshire. Stuart Pearce, his father, was a Royal New Zealand Air Force pilot and RAF test pilot, and Anne Cocking, his mother, was an English teacher.
Pearce’s family moved to Geelong, Victoria, Australia, when he was three years old. Pearce’s father perished in an aeroplane crash when he was eight years old.
