Sharmila Tagore was born in Hyderabad, India, on December 8, 1944, to Gitindranath Tagore, a British India Corporation general manager, and his wife Ira Tagore. Tagore’s father was from an aristocratic Bengali Hindu family, closely connected to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
