Michael Andrew Fox was born on June 9, 1961, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Phyllis, an actress and payroll clerk, and William Fox, a police officer and member of the Canadian Forces. He is descended from Irish, English, and Scottish ancestors. Because of his father’s job, his family resided in a variety of cities and villages across Canada.
When his father retired in 1971, they finally moved to Burnaby, a big suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. On January 6, 1990, his father died after a heart attack. Fox went to Burnaby Central Secondary School and now has a theatre at Burnaby South Secondary dedicated after him.
