Swara Bhasker was born in Delhi on April 9, 1988, to C. Uday Bhaskar, an Indian Navy officer of Telugu descent, and his wife Ira Bhaskar, a Bihari-born professor of cinema studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Varanasi was her maternal grandmother’s hometown.
Bhasker was born and raised in Delhi, where she attended Sardar Patel Vidyalaya. She went on to Miranda House at Delhi University, where she studied English literature alongside fellow actor, Minissha Lamba. She graduated from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University with a master’s degree in sociology.
