Williams is the son of Priscilla Anne (Jarvis) and Bernard Cardwell Williams and was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew raised on a ranch outside of Fort Worth and went on to Texas Christian University to study animal husbandry and business. After a disagreement with his father about how the ranch should be administered, he relocated to Hawaii in 1956.
