Zeenat Aman was born in Bombay on November 19, 1951, as Zeenat Khan. Aman is the cousin of actor Raza Murad and the niece of actor Murad. He was born to a Muslim father and a Marathi-speaking Hindu mother.

Her father, Amanullah Khan, worked as a scriptwriter for films such as Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah and used the pen name “Aman” for several of his works, which she eventually used as her screen name.
