Early life
Leonard was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, the fifth of Cicero and Getha Leonard’s seven children. Ray Charles was his mother’s favorite singer, and he was named after him.
When he was three years old, his family relocated to Washington, D.C., and when he was ten, they settled permanently in Palmer Park, Maryland.
