Early life
Dharmendra was born Dharam Singh Deol on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali, a village in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, to Punjabi Jat Samaj couple Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur. Dangon, near Pakhowal Tehsil Raikot, Ludhiana, is his ancestral village.
He grew up in the village of Sahnewal and attended Government Senior Secondary School in Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, where his father was the headmaster of the village school. In 1952, he completed his intermediate studies at Ramgarhia College in Phagwara.
